Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off

Some materials require special handling for safe disposal and should not be placed in the trash. These items are known as Household Hazardous Waste or HHW.

This service is available ONLY to residents of SOCRRA member communities and residents of Bingham Farms, City of Bloomfield Hills, Franklin, Rochester, and Rochester Hills.

There are two options for the disposal of household hazardous waste for eligible residents.

  • SOCRRA’s Recycling Drop-off Center - by appointment only.

  • ERG Environmental Services - no appointment required Monday -Friday.

SOCRRA’s Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off program by appointment only.

This service is available ONLY to residents of SOCRRA member communities as well as residents of Bingham Farms, City of Bloomfield Hills, Franklin, Rochester, and Rochester Hills.

The Drop-off Center is located at 995 Coolidge, Troy, MI (between 14 Mile and Maple).

ID must be presented when dropping off HHW

Rochester and Rochester Hills residents must bring printed paper voucher available for purchase from city.

Procedure:

  • Enter off Industrial Road and use visitor entrance.

  • Must have ID showing residency from a SOCRRA community, Bingham Farms, the City of Bloomfield Hills or Franklin Village or printed paper voucher for Rochester and Rochester Hills residents -- purchase from city.

  • Ring doorbell and return to your car. The attendant with PPE will unload your items for you

  • Latex and Oil Paints

  • Adhesives and Glues

  • Paint thinner/remover

  • Caulk

  • Furniture Strippers

  • Rechargeable Batteries

  • Compact Fluorescent Bulbs (CFLs)

  • 4ft & 8ft fluorescent tubes

  • LED lights/lightbulbs

  • Cooking Oil

NOT ACCEPTED: Unlabeled waste or containers with unknown contents, radioactive materials, explosives, waste from clean-ups or spills, hazardous waste generated by a business or industry.
